Muttiah Muralitharan added another feather to his hat in the 1st test match between India and Sri Lanka held at Galle from 18th July to 22nd July, by taking 800 wickets in the test career. Muralitharan was 8 wickets behind his record of 800 wickets, when he announced his retirement from test cricket and this 1st test match will be his last one of his career.
Muralitharan took 8 wickets in this 1st test match against India to create his record of 800 wickets in test career. He took 5 wickets in 1st innings and 3 wickets in the 2nd innings. He dismissed Ojha to claim his 800th wicket and which was also the last wicket of India to fall and Sri Lanka had won the test match by 10 wickets.
38 year old cricketer had played 133 test matches( 230 innings) to pick his 800 wickets with ah Avg of 22.72, Econ of 2.47, with his best figure of 9/51 in an innings and 16/220 in a match. In his test cricket career he had made 67 5 wicket haul, 22 10 wicket haul and 45 4wicket haul.
He had altogether picked 1328 wickets including all the three formats of cricket(Test, ODI & T-20). He had also got 1374 wickets in First-Class, 653 wickets in List A and 83 wickets in Domestic T-20 cricket.
