1st Test Match - India vs Sri Lanka


India will be playing 3 Test matches in Sri Lanka against the home side. 1st test match between India and Sri Lanka ended today at Galle in which Sri Lanka won the match by 10 wickets and leading the series as 1-0. L Malinga was named as the player of the match for his 7 wickets - 2 in 1st innings and 5 wickets in 2nd innings. Another highlight of this match was, Sri Lankan spinner Muralitharan had picked up his 800th test wicket and this match will be the last one for him. Yes the legendary spinner Murlai had retired from Test cricket and will play in the limited over editions.

Match Summary:
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. 

In their 1st innings, they scored 520 runs by losing 8 wickets in 124 overs and then they declared the innings. For Sri Lanka Paranavitana scored 111 runs and skipper Sangakkara scored 103 runs. For India Mithun took 4 wickets, I Sharma 3 wickets and Sehwag 1 wicket. Then with the huge trail of 520 runs India started their play and were able to score only 276 runs by losing all their wickets. For India Sehwag scored 109 runs and Yuvraj Singh 52 runs. For Sri Lanka Muralitharan took 5 wickets , Malinga 2 wickets and Welegedara & Herath each took 1 wicket.

By scoring 276 runs India failed to avoid follow on and Sri Lanka imposed India to start their 2nd innings with bat. In their 2nd innings India managed to score only 338 runs which was 94 runs ahead of Sri Lanka's 1st innings score. For India Tendulkar scored 84 runs and Laxman scored 69 runs. For Sri Lanka Malinga took 5 wickets, Muralitharan took 3 wickets and Welegedara 1 wicket.

With the target of 95 runs Sri Lanka started their 2nd innings and attained it just 14.1 overs in which Dilshan scored 68 runs of 47 balls and Paranavitana scored 23 runs.
