The 1st ODI match between West Indies and Zimbabwe held yesterday, 4th March Thursday at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
The visitors Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bat first.
Zimbabwe's Squad:
H Masakadza, V Sibanda, T Taibu, B Taylor, E Chigumbura, S Matsikenyeri, G Lamb, A Cremer, P Utseya, S Masakadza and R Price.
West Indies Squad:
C Gayle, A Barath, S Chanderpaul, A Fletcher, N Deonarine, K Pollard, D Ramdin, D Smith, N Miller, S Benn and K Roach.
Match Result:
Zimbabwe won the match by 2 runs. V Sibanda of Zimbabwe was named as the player of the match for his 95 runs.
Match Summary:
H Masakadza and V Sibanda started Zimbabwe's innings. It was really nice to see Zimbabwe batsmen's playing a sensible cricket. V Sibanda was star of the day who helped Zimbabwe to score 250+ runs. At the end of 50 overs Zimbabwe managed to score 254 runs by losing 5 wickets. For Zzimbabwe V Sibanda scored 95 runs with 5-4's & 1-6, T Taibu scored 56 runs with 5-4's and H Masakadza scored 41 runs with 6-4's. For West Indies K Pollard picked 2 wickets and K Roach & N Miller each picked 1 wicket.
With the target of 255 runs West Indies started their innings with C Gayle and A Barath. Top three batsmen's played well but the middle order players failed to do their job which leaded them to lose the match. At the end of 50 overs West Indies scored 252 runs just 3 runs short and lost their 1st ODI match. For West Indies S Chanderpaul scored 70 runs with 4-4's & 1-6, C Gayle 57 runs with 2-4's & 3-6's and A Barath 50 runs with 4-4's & 1-6. For Zimbabwe S Masakadza picked 3 wickets, E Chigumbura picked 2 wickets and P Utseya & G Lamb each picked 1 wicket.
The 2nd ODI match will be played on March 6th Saturday at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
